Southeast electrical licensing

Southeast electrical apprentice requirements.

Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi illustrate four different combinations of individual licensing, local licensing, limited-license systems, and contractor-centered regulation.

The license class matters more than the state border

Kentucky and Alabama issue statewide individual electrician credentials. Tennessee mixes local worker licensing with state LLE and contractor licenses. Mississippi’s statewide structure is focused primarily on contractors and qualifying parties. That makes direct credential-to-credential comparison essential.

Reciprocity ranges from individual-license agreements to trade-exam waivers

Kentucky uses agreement-specific reciprocity. Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi publish contractor exam-waiver or reciprocity pathways with different partner states and conditions. None of these should be treated as automatic permission to work under an out-of-state license.

Important: Local licensing can still apply, especially in Tennessee and Mississippi worker-level contexts. Verify the exact authority controlling the project location.
