Current licensing facts
New York must be approached jurisdiction first
State-registered apprenticeship does not create one statewide electrician license. Cities and local authorities can impose their own licensing requirements.
New York City is a major but local example
NYC requires a separate DOB Master or Special Electrician license with written/practical exams, background review, and NYC-specific experience requirements.

Electrical license reciprocity / portability
New York does not publish a single statewide general-electrician reciprocity program because licensing is local. Reciprocity or credit for an out-of-area credential must be checked with the city or local licensing authority where the work will occur.
