Current licensing facts
Maine licenses apprentices as well as journeymen
The apprentice credential itself is state-issued and tied to a registered apprenticeship agreement.
The early-exam route does not erase the experience requirement for full journeyman licensure
Maine allows certain approved-program apprentices to sit for the exam at 4,000 hours, while the standard journeyman qualification still includes 8,000 hours and 576 study hours.
Journeyman renewal includes Code education
Maine requires a 15-hour current NEC course for journeyman renewal under the Board’s published schedule.
