Florida electrical apprentice requirements.

Florida regulates certified and registered electrical contractors statewide, while local worker credentials may still matter because there is no single statewide journeyman-electrician license.

Current licensing facts

✓
Certified vs registered
Certified contractors may work statewide; registered contractors are tied to local competency/licensing authority.
✓
Exam
Two parts: technical/safety and business; computer-based testing through Pearson VUE.
✓
Experience
Multiple qualifying routes, including four years as foreman/supervisor/contractor, three years management, or six years combined training/experience.
✓
EC experience mix
At least 40% of qualifying work must be in three-phase services.
✓
Current fees
$263.25 exam application; $123.75 CBT vendor fee; $296 initial active certified license.
✓
Renewal / CE
Renew August 31 of even-numbered years; Certified Electrical Contractors need 11 CE hours.

Passing the exam does not itself issue the license

Applicants must still prove the required experience and business/financial qualifications and receive Board approval.

Florida uses endorsement for out-of-state applicants

Endorsement can be based on a substantially similar exam or a qualifying ten-year out-of-state license pathway.

Electrical license reciprocity / portability

Florida currently has no reciprocal licensing agreements with other states. Instead, it uses endorsement, which requires Board approval and is not automatic.
